My Sweet Suzie

Oct. 20th, 2009 | 02:25 pm
mood: artisticartistic

She is my sweet Suzie but she has no soul. Her eyes are ruby red, skin as black as coal. In her heart, there burns an electric fury. From her voice, men will turn and scurry. This is my sweet Suzie, number forty-four.

Week 8

Sep. 24th, 2009 | 09:59 am
mood: determineddetermined

I've reconnected with Beth, another old friend. I'm not sure what got me thinking about her but I did and I found her through Facebook. Useful tool, Facebook.

To be honest, I was half-expecting her to tell me to frack-off. It seems I was a little too effective with my ninja smokebomb and the people with whom I've been reuniting have not been shy to tell me so.

I am learning the hard way that while I disappeared quite effectively from sight, I managed to leave memories that don't fade. I am ashamed that even in choosing a "soft" approach to shutting everyone out for so long, I still ended up hurting people I love.

So.

Here at Week #8, I am 203 lbs. I am not likely to achieve 180 lbs. by Week 12 but I will not call it quits. My old friends didn't give up on me. I will not give up on myself.

Week 7

Sep. 16th, 2009 | 05:44 am
mood: frustratedfrustrated

I did not lose more than a quarter of a pound this week. 204.3 lbs.

However, I did not walk very much more than 2 miles.

Need to get back on the wagon. I seem to have fallen off. I wish I had a ranger buddy to help keep me motivated but I have gotten accustomed to being alone. Nobody is there to watch my back or catch me if I fall - must keep fighting.

Never surrender.

Never stop fighting.

What I am is not enough. When will I be enough? I have no idea and there is no one to tell me.

For now, fight on!

Week 6 of My Plan to Lose Weight

Sep. 5th, 2009 | 07:44 am
mood: determineddetermined

So. Eh. I gained a little weight this week and am at 204.7 lbs.

I was expecting a gain-week and it happened at the half-way point. No worries! As for miles, I managed to get 6 miles hiked or walked this week. My left ankle, the one that flared up after the foot surgery, is sore and little more swollen than usual but...

MIND OVER MATTER! If I don't mind, it doesn't matter!

For the rest of this fine Saturday, I'm getting my hair trimmed, watching some anime, and then heading over the hill into Santa Cruz for Boardwalk and beach bonfire fun with Shannon B. & Aaron and company.

Week 5

Aug. 28th, 2009 | 07:46 am
mood: determineddetermined

I'm not sure what I should be feeling right now. Elated? Nervous??

I weigh in at 203.8 lbs this morning.

It's been another "lazy" week and I've only put in 3 miles of walking so far. I'm hitting the trail again on Saturday morning but I'll be following it north. I haven't gone that way yet.

Week 4

Aug. 20th, 2009 | 07:40 am
mood: dirtyHurting

Today, August 20th, I weigh 206lbs. Although a little less, the pain is still quite unpleasant. I've walked 2 miles in total and will be adding another four this weekend,

I also replaced the Camry and now own a 1998 Nissan Maxima GLE. It is in very good shape and only needs minor body work and for the tail and head light assemblies to be replaced (sun-damage and cracks are evident).

Week 3 - Bad News and Good News

Aug. 9th, 2009 | 12:05 am
mood: worriedpainful

Bad News: I got into a head-on collision. Combined speed of 50mph. Ouch. Chest is a little sore but none of the fun pains associated with broken ribs. Camry is totaled. Gotta talk to the insurance people on Monday.

Good News: I am 207 lbs. I only marched 8 combined miles this week but with the car out of commission for now, I'll prolly be up to 20 miles next week! So the the goal for next week is 206 to 203 lbs.

Week Two

Aug. 4th, 2009 | 02:29 pm
mood: determineddetermined

Last week involved with a 6 mile walk on Wednesday and on Saturday, I pushed 10 miles in 2 hours. During the ten-mile hike, I was doing isometrics with most of my muscle groups and, OMFG, I felt like I'd been flattened by a bus after I got home.

To treat myself, I got a one hour massage that left me almost no aches in the areas I exercised.

This morning, I am 208lbs.

Maxpedition Monsoon Gearslinger - 7 weeks later

Jun. 30th, 2009 | 11:10 am
mood: contentcontent

Typical of Maxpedition construction and materials, the Monsoon has made it through seven weeks of near daily use and still looks out-of-the-box new. Given that this is an EDC bag, that's not really a surprise.

The strap is fairly comfortable but I tend to sweat under it in warm weather and the bag cannot be carried from the right shoulder. I can't switch and so I end up with a band of sweat-darkened shirt in the shape of the strap.

The undivided main compartment really isn't suitable for camera gear unless you DIY dividers and at least one additional pouch.

The existing pouches and compartments have been useful. Loading a 100 oz. Camelbak Omega was a breeze and the drinking tube had enough play to easily reach my mouth.

All told, I am pleased with the Monsoon as an EDC bag.
